Tudor unveils new model celebrating partnership with Alinghi Red Bull Racing

Jun 30, 2023
TUDOR is a Swiss watch brand offering mechanical timepieces that combine unique value with sophisticated style and unwavering reliability. Throughout history, TUDOR watches have been the choice of the most daring adventurers and skilled professionals. To celebrate its partnership with Alinghi Red Bull Racing, two new models have been added to the Pelagos FXD: a simple three-hand model and a chronograph inspired by yacht racing. Featuring a case combining carbon composite, titanium, and stainless steel, these models are equipped with manufacture calibers and embody the fearless spirit required of those who take on the most intense yacht races in history.

CARBON COMPOSITE, TITANIUM AND STAINLESS STEEL
Pelagos FXD “Alinghi Red Bull Racing” goes beyond the world of watches. It marks a first for TUDOR. The long-term partnership between TUDOR and ALINGHI RED BULL RACING will begin in 2022, marking TUDOR's first foray into the world of competitive yacht racing, a sport that has been around for centuries, where victory is achieved through the fusion of determined human daring and cutting-edge technology. This philosophy led to the creation of a Tudor watch, a first for Tudor, combining high-tech carbon composite with titanium and stainless steel - just like the hydrofoils of the AC75 (America's Cup 75) racing yacht. It was also the first time Tudor had housed a chronograph calibre in a case with a fixed strap bar.
Tudor's bold and innovative spirit is also fully expressed in the two new Pelagos FXD and Pelagos FXD Chrono models. Limits are meant to be broken - a spirit shared by Tudor and Alinghi Red Bull Racing that is embodied in these watches.

The Alinghi Red Bull Racing AC75 represents the pinnacle of cutting-edge marine engineering, with a unique blend of carbon, titanium and stainless steel shaping a hull that leaps out of the water at high speeds. The new Pelagos FXD similarly demonstrates technical mastery, combining high-tech carbon composite—an extremely lightweight and robust material—for the case and bezel insert, titanium for the bezel, crown, and direct-action pushers, and 316L stainless steel for the caseback and inner case. The FXD case was originally developed in conjunction with the French Navy's combat divers. Featuring a case design water-resistant to 200 meters and a fixed strap bar, these two models feature a bidirectional rotating bezel with 120 notches, finished with Grade X1 Swiss-made Super-LumiNova®, a luminescent material that exhibits up to 60% better performance after two hours compared to standard grades. The bezel's 60-0 scale allows easy tracking of the countdown, highlighting key moments before the start of a regatta. The result is a distinctive high-tech mechanical sports watch. The Alinghi Red Bull Racing logo is engraved on the caseback as a symbol of this partnership.

RACE READY DIALS
Legibility is paramount on the matte dials, in the same color scheme as the AC75's hull. Both dials are colored in the Alinghi Red Bull Racing team's blue and feature a red second or chronograph seconds hand. The chronograph model also features red accents around the counters, evocative of the red stripes adorning the AC75's hull. The words "Alinghi Red Bull Racing" are subtly inscribed in an arched pattern on the 45-degree angled flange between the 10 and 2 digits. The iconic square hour markers and "snowflake" hands were invented by Tudor in the 1960s as a design that maximized the luminous surface area for improved legibility. In this model, they are crafted from a luminous ceramic compound that ensures optimal legibility, even under challenging conditions.

A SEAFARING FABRIC STRAP
Tudor has been a pioneer in the use of single-piece fabric straps since 2010. Crafted on 19th-century looms by Julien Faure, a family-run company in Saint-Étienne, France, for over 150 years, these fabric straps offer a unique combination of quality and comfort. For the Pelagos FXD, Julien Faure and Tudor developed a new strap construction. The new strap features a 22mm wide jacquard ribbon in "Team Blue" with red accents, combined with a self-grip fastening system and titanium buckle, ensuring a comfortable fit for any wrist.

THE MANUFACTURE CALIBRE MT5602
The Manufacture Caliber MT5602 powering the Pelagos FXD displays hours, minutes, and seconds. It has the look and feel of iconic TUDOR manufacture calibers. Its monobloc tungsten rotor is openworked, and the bridges and mainplate are alternately sandblasted and laser-etched.
Robust, durable, reliable, and precise, this movement's variable inertia balance is held in place by a sturdy, double-supported traversing bridge. It also features a non-magnetic silicon balance spring, and the MT5602 is COSC-certified. TUDOR has gone even further, achieving an even higher standard of accuracy: -2 to +4 seconds per day in assembled wristwatch form.
Another notable feature is its approximately 70-hour power reserve. This means you can take your watch off on Friday night and put it back on Monday morning without having to rewind it. It's up to you to enjoy the weekend while your watch stays on task.

THE MANUFACTURE CALIBRE MT5813
The Manufacture Caliber MT5813 powering the Pelagos FXD Chrono displays hours, minutes, seconds, chronograph, and date functions. It features the matte finish typical of TUDOR manufacture calibers and the iconic openworked monobloc tungsten rotor.
Boasting a power reserve of approximately 70 hours and a silicon balance spring, the Manufacture Chronograph Caliber MT5813 is COSC-certified, exceeding the COSC's standard for accuracy, achieving a deviation of -2 to +4 seconds per day. The highly functional movement is crafted in Tudor's traditional watchmaking tradition and features an intricate column-wheel mechanism and vertical clutch. In keeping with Tudor's quality philosophy, it maintains exceptional robustness and precision, guaranteed by numerous rigorous tests, just like all Tudor products.
Based on the Manufacture Caliber Breitling 01 Chronograph, this movement features a high-precision regulator developed by Tudor and features exclusive finishing, resulting from a lasting collaboration between the two brands.

THE TUDOR MANUFACTURE
Every Tudor watch is assembled and fully tested to Tudor's high standards in the new Tudor Manufacture in Le Locle, Switzerland. Combining watchmaking expertise with the highest level of production control and automated testing systems, the new, state-of-the-art facility was completed in 2021 after three years of construction. The Manufacture, painted in Tudor red, spans four floors and a total area of over 5,500 square meters, creating a physical and visual connection to the adjacent Kenissi Manufacture, Tudor's movement production facility, which opened in 2016. Through its network of Tudor-owned subsidiaries and Kenissi, Tudor has been able to integrate the development and production of high-performance mechanical calibers. As a result, Tudor can now fully master the production and guarantee the quality of these critical components.

THE TUDOR GUARANTEE
Since the brand was founded by Hans Wilsdorf in 1926, Tudor's vision for creating the perfect watch has remained unchanged: a never-ending pursuit of robustness, durability, and precision. Based on this experience and confidence in the superior quality of its watches, Tudor offers a 5-year warranty on all of its products. This warranty does not require watch registration or regular servicing and is transferable. Although this varies depending on the frequency of use and conditions, we recommend an overhaul approximately once every 10 years.

TUDOR IS #BORNTODARE
In 2017, Tudor launched a new campaign under the slogan #BornToDare, which reflects both the brand's history and what it stands for today. It tells the stories of adventurers who have worn Tudor watches to achieve extraordinary feats on land, sea, air, and even on ice. It embodies the vision of founder Hans Wilsdorf, who created watches for those who endure extreme conditions and continue to challenge themselves. It is a testament to the unparalleled commitment to watchmaking that has made Tudor what it is today. Tudor's innovations have always been at the center of attention, and the #BornToDare spirit is embodied by its ambassadors, who are, by definition, change-makers.
