Gucci's most iconic symbol, the bamboo, was born in 1947 from the innovative ideas of artisans at the Gucci workshop in Florence, Italy, amid the shortage of supplies following World War II. At the time, bamboo was able to be imported from Japan, and was used to create the handbag handles. It is bent into a smooth semicircle, bringing out the natural beauty of the bamboo material.
The bamboo, a symbol of the Maison's history, has evolved over time.
