The 2022-23 Métiers d'Art collection combines a wealth of colors and motifs inspired by the energy of the 1970s with iconic CHANEL codes—camellias, intertwined pearls, jeweled buttons, beaded embroidery, and sequins—reimagined by CHANEL Artistic Director Virginie Viard in creative dialogue with the artisans of Maison d'Art.

The show, which took place for the first time last December at the former Palace of Justice in Dakar, Senegal, was a program celebrating the internationally influential arts scene in this cultural city, with a focus on fashion, film, literature, contemporary art and music, areas that are particularly important to CHANEL.

This time, CHANEL is forging new connections with the Tokyo art scene, continuing the long-term artistic dialogue that began in Dakar in the city. Guests were invited to Tokyo Big Sight to experience a new interpretation of choreographer Dimitri Chambras's Slow Show, performed by student dancers from Senzoku Gakuen College of Music, Tama Art University, Japan Women's College of Physical Education and other institutions.

The show, held in a minimalist beige and black space, began with Japanese guitarist Ichika Nito performing Ryuichi Sakamoto's legendary "Merry Christmas, Mr. Lawrence" on violin and piano, followed by a special collaboration with Senegalese rapper Nix on Ichika Nito's original song, "The World is still Beautiful."

Japanese all-girl band CHAI appeared at the after-party, and were joined by Nix and Ichika Nito for a special one-night-only session. Furthermore, singer and Chanel ambassador Jennie from BLACKPINK appeared on stage as a surprise guest, singing her solo song "You & Me." The event was capped off by a DJ set by Japanese artist Peli and a live performance by French music duo Polo & Pan.
