Jil Sander opened its first Kyoto store on May 27th on the first floor of Kyoto BAL on Kawaramachi-dori. The new store will carry all collections, including the Jil Sander collection, Jil Sander+, bags, accessories, jewelry, and the photo books that Lucie and Luke Meier collaborate with artists and photographers to create and publish each season, as well as the store's exclusive black-dyed "7 DAYS SHIRT" series.

The pure, geometric, and light-filled store is dotted with elements evocative of nature, and the architecture and interior décor combine Japanese and European modernism with Jil Sander's sensibility and precision. The pillars and clothes racks are made of wood, the ceiling is also made of wood, and some of the walls are finished in plaster. The space, reminiscent of a row house, is a clear reference to the traditional style of the region. In contrast, the floors, walls, benches, and display shelves are made of travertine, a rock commonly used in Scandinavia, including Milan, where Jil Sander's headquarters and design base are located. Under the direction of Lucie and Luke Meier, the project evolved from the brand's vision for stores to open around the world. This vision is guided by a simple and sensitive approach to design, finding aesthetic balance by combining the cultural heritage of the stores they are located in with a perfect rhythm of light, lines, and materials. "We consciously, yet impulsively, combine elements from different cultures, traditions, geographies, and generations, transforming them into something deeply personal. Kyoto and Japanese culture play an important role in this," say Lucie and Luke Meier. "Interpreting ideas and emotions in an emotive city like Kyoto brings me great joy, both personally and creatively."

The "7 Days Shirt" is a collaboration with Kyoto Montsuki. Jil Sander's iconic "7 Days Shirt" has been dyed black by Kyoto Montsuki, a company founded in Kyoto in 1915, using high-quality spring water and a unique technique called deep black dyeing. The result is a fusion of Jil Sander's aesthetic and Kyoto Montsuki's outstanding craftsmanship.
