
Seibu Shibuya is currently exhibiting photographs by Ari Seth Cohen, a photographer acclaimed in the US. The exhibition is titled "Stylish Snaps of New York Madams: Advanced Style," and is located in the special venue on the 7th floor of Building A. Admission is 500 yen and the exhibition runs until March 1st.
The exhibition features approximately 150 photographs taken in New York from the photo book "Advanced Style" (Yamato Shobo), featuring women aged 60 to 100. Each photograph features women dressing freely in whatever they like and displaying their own unique style, drawing acclaim and leading to the book's sales of 41,000 copies.
The exhibition features works based on five themes. In addition to "Statement Items—The New York Fashion Revolution," which focuses on accessories that convey a sense of "making a statement," other highly-anticipated works include "Walk in Heels—Always Click Your Heels," which captures New Yorkers strutting through the city in cool heels, and "Priceless Vintage—You Determine Your Own Value," which offers a glimpse into the fashion sense of top fashion houses. Other intriguing themes include "Powerful Elegance—You Define Yourself—," which is packed with ideas for combining simple knitwear and other items that everyone owns, and "No Rules, My Rules—No Rules Are My Rules," which showcases unique yet stylish styles. This exhibition allows visitors to experience the artistry of photography while also reflecting on the lives that fashion tells. From those in their 20s and 30s to those of the same generation as the subjects, it's sure to have an impact not only on their fashion but also on their outlook on life.
