In Los Angeles and its legendary studios bathed in twilight, the energetic energy of fashion and cinema invites us to step into the spotlight and daydream, almost as if enthralled on the dance floor.

The 2023/24 Cruise Collection explores this colorful, joyful and elegant world in a variety of ways. From the glamour of the 1920s and 1930s to the rhythm of the 1970s and 1980s, each decade takes centre stage with a joyous expression.

“It’s all about balance: between the glamour of great film stars and the playful world of aerobics, sports and roller skating; between dreams and what you actually want to wear,” says Virginie Viard.

Rhinestone-embellished shorts and jumpsuits, embroidered bustiers and compact tank tops, 1960s-inspired suits, bathrobes and casual pyjamas, 1930s-inspired shoes and variations on disco shoes, crepe de chine and terry cloth, swimwear, wrap tops, leg warmers and evening dresses. In this way, CHANEL's history and codes meet the world of dance, merging and inspiring new imaginations.

This exuberant vitality is reflected in a multi-coloured palette that balances the timeless colours of the House with pastels and renewed vibrant tones. In addition to the iconic black and white, pink, a favourite of the artistic director, and hints of gold evoke the golden age of cinema, its empresses, the bright light of the projectors that projected them and the eternal California sunshine.

The dazzling energy at the heart of the collection is infused in the fabrics, embroideries and prints.

That energy drives the collection through motifs ranging from geometric to figurative: gold squares, black and gold chevrons, disco balls, milkshakes, roller skates—a design once favored by Karl Lagerfeld—to towering palm trees and Pacific sunsets. It also shines through the diverse accessories, including statement rhinestones, gradients, and metallic leather.

"We wanted to bring a breath of fresh air, a journey, a light-hearted, happy fantasy," concludes Virginie.
