From May 16th to May 28th, 2023, Shiseido Parlour Ginza Main Store Salon de Café will be serving a special menu inspired by the "Azuma Odori," a dance from the Shimbashi geisha world that continues to convey the chic and glamorous style of Edo. Recalling the sophisticated story of Shimbashi geisha taking a break with soda water between lessons at the time Shiseido Parlour was founded, why not take this opportunity to savor an elegant parfait that exudes that refined and stylish demeanor, along with a beautiful Shimbashi-colored ice cream soda?

◆Sale period: Tuesday, May 16th to Sunday, May 28th, 2023

◆"Azuma Odori Parfait" 2,700 yen
The Japanese atmosphere of "Azuma Odori" is expressed using matcha produced in Shizuoka Prefecture. The main flavors are a refreshing tea sorbet and ice cream, and traditional vanilla ice cream, and the addition of soybean flour warabi mochi, shiratama (rice flour dumplings), and fruit adds a rich texture and color, and the umbrella garnish gives it a chic geisha look.

◆"Shinbashi-colored Ice Cream Soda" 1,300 yen
"Shinbashi-color," a bright greenish-blue that is a traditional Japanese color, is said to have taken its name from the color of the kimonos favored by Shinbashi geisha, who were at the forefront of fashion in the late Meiji period, and to have spread as a sophisticated color. The color is expressed with green apple-flavored syrup, lemon, and ginger ale, and traditional vanilla ice cream is floating on top.

The Story of Shimbashi Geisha and Shiseido Parlour
The history of Shiseido Parlour began in 1902 with Japan's first soda fountain, which manufactured and sold soda water and ice cream, set up at the Shiseido Pharmacy. Since its founding, Shimbashi's geisha have been its regular customers. Their relationship with them is so deep that they offered a glass of soda water with a free gift of the lotion Eudermine (released in 1897) advertised as the ultimate drink to quench drunken customers' thirst, and it is said to have become a huge hit and a major Ginza specialty. One story that remains of the restaurant is that it once had a shamisen storage area created for geisha to take a break with a soda water between shamisen lessons.
