Located about a five-minute walk from Anguk Subway Station is a wooden building with a tiled roof emblazoned with the "onion" logo. Cafe Onion in Insadong, South Korea, is a bakery cafe renovated from a hanok, a traditional Korean house.

The aroma of freshly baked bread and the sound of the espresso machine will make your mornings on the go happy. The restaurant offers table seating, a wooden-floored room called a maru, and a tatami room heated by Korea's unique ondol (floor heating), allowing you to experience the traditional Hanok housing style while you dine.

All of Cafe Onion's breads are photogenic. From sweet breads to savory breads...there's a wide selection of delicious-looking breads. They also have a wide selection of bean paste and soybean flour breads, which are popular among Japanese people.

The most popular item is the Pain d'Or, a bread with a texture similar to chiffon cake and topped with a generous amount of powdered sugar. Carefully placing the mountain of powdered sugar on a tray so as not to disturb it, we carefully carry it to our table. Pain d'Or is not as sweet as it looks, and has a light, fluffy texture. It pairs perfectly with the cappuccino we ordered.
In addition to this Anguk location, Cafe Onion also has locations in Seongsu and Mia. Both locations have been renovated from old buildings, creating a new atmosphere that blends the old and the new. Each location is worth a visit.
Also, when you go to Anguk Station, why not visit the Arario Museum in Space, an art museum located just a five-minute walk away? The museum was opened in 2014 through the renovation of the former offices of the "Kukan" architectural firm, and is a must-see art spot for architecture lovers.

Korean architecture breathes new life into traditional old buildings, transforming them into spaces everyone can enjoy. May these wonderful spaces, where nostalgia and modernity intertwine, continue to survive in the rapidly changing city of Tokyo...
We will continue to report on our Weekend Korea Trip! irregularly.
