Diptyque releases its first "chypre" fragrance, new rose-themed fragrances and candles

Release Date:2020.01.02
Dec 16, 2019
Diptyque will release its first two chypre fragrances on January 2, 2020. The eau de parfum, scented candle, solid perfume, and scented oval will be available in limited-edition packaging.

Diptyque has been in Paris's 5th arrondissement for nearly 60 years, but until now, there has been no story about Paris. Following on from Olène (Italy), Philosykos (Greece), Do Son (Vietnam), and Oyedo (Japan), the brand has now released two fragrances dedicated to the city of Paris, a city with which the brand has a deep connection. Culturally, it served as the foundation for decades of the heyday of "Parisian" chic and the most famous fragrance composition in history: the "chypre."

"Eau de Parfum Eau Capitale" (75ml, ¥20,500)

"Eau de Parfum Eau Capitale" (75ml, ¥20,500) features a top note where the sensual accent is tempered by the freshness of bergamot. While fruity, it also features vibrant zesty notes, creating a juicy, refreshing fragrance. The heart notes reveal a bouquet of flowers, their petals so wide they threaten to spill out, releasing a rich fragrance, before concluding with earthy, dark vetiver and a base note of ambrofix, a blend of musk, dried tobacco leaf and ambergris. Perfumer Olivier Pescheux's abstract and enigmatic fragrance expresses the sophistication of Paris, the City of Light, while remaining slightly removed from its elegant aura.

"Eau de Parfum Eau Capitale" (75ml, ¥20,500)

The bottle, featuring the words "Eau Capitale" in flowing calligraphy, incorporates a variety of modern imagery. The front features the Eiffel Tower surrounded by rose, bergamot, and patchouli leaves. The back of the label features a single peacock, with a subtle motif of dots and intersecting lines translating from the outside to the inside, like the turning of the pages of a novel.
"Fragrance Candle Paris en Fleur" (190g, ¥8,900)

Another fragrance featured in the limited collection, "Paris en Fleur," evokes the roses of Bagatelle Park and flower markets in the Bois de Boulogne, as well as the roses given by lovers to confess their love. The "Fragrance Candle Paris en Fleur" (70g 5,000 yen, 190g 8,900 yen) offers the delicate elegance of chypre scent rising as smoke, along with the nuances of rose petals and patchouli that linger on the curtains.

"Solid Perfume Eau Capitale" (3.6g, ¥7,000)

In addition, "Solid Perfume Eau Capitale" (3.6g, ¥7,000) and "Fragrance Oval Paris en Fleur" (35g, ¥7,500) will be available in limited edition packaging.
