The annual Setagaya Bread Festival 2019 will be held again this year over two days, October 13th and 14th. Under the theme of "New Bread Era," approximately 120 vendors will set up stalls selling bread and bread accompaniments each day, turning the entire Mishuku area into a bread festival venue.

This year's Setagaya Bread Festival will be comprised of four major programs. The Bread Market, a marketplace of delicious bread and bread accompaniments to satisfy your autumn appetite, will be held at Ikejiri Elementary School Second Gymnasium and Setagaya Park. This year's festival will feature a large gathering of famous bakeries and bread accompaniments from all over Japan, including Setagaya Ward.
A "Food & Drink Market" will be set up in the schoolyard of Ikejiri Elementary School and Setagaya Park, bringing together a variety of Japanese, Western, and Chinese food and drink stalls that go perfectly with bread. There will also be a rest area where you can eat and drink, so we recommend taking a break with a loaf of bread.

IID Setagaya School of Manufacturing will be hosting "Setagaya Bread University," a two-day limited learning opportunity where people can learn about and enjoy bread. Produced by the Japan Bread Coordinator Association, an organization that systematically teaches bread knowledge and how to use it, the event will feature courses and workshops related to food waste, focusing on the environment surrounding bread.
In addition, chefs from two popular Mishuku bakeries, Signifiant Signifie and Boulangerie La Terre, will be holding courses. Other programs, including craft workshops that can be freely joined on the day without prior reservations, will be available at the IID Setagaya School of Manufacturing, Setagaya Gayagaya Hall, and Food Academy, with a capacity of approximately 1,500 participants over the two days. Applications for courses requiring advance registration will open on Peatix from September 25th.

In advance of the event, a stamp rally will be held from September 21st to October 14th, visiting each store in the member areas of the Mishuku 420 Shopping District Association. After obtaining a rally sheet at each participating store in the Mishuku area, participants can freely wander the town and collect stamps to receive a limited-edition cotton bag (1,500 in total, 750 per day). Items can be redeemed at a special booth within the venue during the event.

In addition, to recycle leftover bread from the event, the event is collaborating with organizations such as "SAVE THE BREAD," which provides services aimed at eliminating food waste. Some stores will also be introducing sugarcane straws, and visitors will be encouraged to bring their own bags. To support these efforts, a crowdfunding project was launched on September 10th on the "Makuake" crowdfunding service.
For a list of participating stores, please visit the official website (http://setagaya-panmatsuri.com). This year marks the 2019 Reiwa era, a time that marked a turning point for bread, and marks the beginning of a new era for bread. Why not come and celebrate the dawn of a new era for bread?
