Herno strengthens its men's line with ultra-lightweight 7-denier down

Feb 8, 2015

HERNO unveiled an ultralight nylon down jacket at Pitti Uomo 87 for the Fall/Winter 2015-16 season. By improving the nylon yarn from the 20 denier used in the brand's previous flagship down jackets to 7 denier, the weight was halved. This ultralight down jacket is called "Sette Denier" (Sette is Italian for 7). By using Primaloft, a new material developed by NASA, instead of the traditional down feathers, it boasts improved warmth, resilience, and water repellency. It's packable for easy travel and available in five colors. It's priced at a relatively reasonable 80,000 yen (tax included). HERNO opened its second flagship store in the world, in Minami-Aoyama, in September 2013, following its first store in Milan. The brand offers a full lineup for women, men, and children, and the image of high-quality down items offered by a luxury coat brand has permeated the domestic market, resulting in strong sales growth this fall/winter, with the men's selection struggling to keep up by the end of last year. The fully waterproof Laminar series, developed in collaboration with Gore-Tex, is a three-layer item with a removable liner that can be used as both a down jacket and a raincoat, and has proven particularly popular at the brand's directly managed stores. In addition to the lightweight down jackets introduced this time, the 2015-16 fall/winter lineup also includes the fully cold-weather Expedition and Laminar, as well as patterned items such as woven nylon checks and hibiscus patterns. The brand plans to keep prices unchanged in Japan, without reflecting the impact of the weak yen on the retail price.
