Tapioca drinks are experiencing a second boom. While walking around Harajuku and Omotesando on the way to an exhibition or meeting, you'll encounter ladies everywhere, "on tapioca-hunting," with tapioca drinks in hand. Recently, a number of stylishly designed stores have opened, from the interiors to the packaging. Walking down the street with a tapioca drink in hand may have become a part of fashion and a status symbol. Meanwhile, a tapioca tea stand produced by an apparel shop has opened in Harajuku, a hotbed of tapioca. The shop is run by lissi Boutique, a girly brand from Osaka. The store opened in Harajuku, Tokyo, on May 24th, and includes a tapioca tea stand.






The shop's specialty is its original "fresh cream tea," made luxuriously with fresh cream. The lineup includes four varieties: "Neri Pepper Cream Tea" (840 yen), a refined and healthy blend of the fragrant pepper and milk; "Coffee Cream Tea" (840 yen), a perfect blend of coffee aroma, milk, and brown sugar; "Uji Matcha Cream Tea" (840 yen), featuring the exquisite aroma of Uji matcha, a perfect combination of brown sugar and milk; and "Okinawa Brown Sugar Cream Tea Tapioca Tea" (840 yen), made with generous amounts of Okinawa's high-quality brown sugar and available in black, jasmine, or roasted green tea. A crispy brulee, toasted over a burner, is available as a topping (+100 yen). When you drink it, the slightly bitter flavor blends with the sweetness of the brown sugar and milk, creating a delightful texture alongside the chewy tapioca pearls.
