Hender Scheme has released the Japanese School Bag, a randoseru made from vegetable-tanned leather.

A randoseru is a backpack that will accompany you to school for six years, and the changes it undergoes over time are clearly visible. While typical randoseru are finished with a pigment, this new randoseru makes the most of the leather's natural texture by using vegetable-tanned cow leather with a dye finish. You can enjoy the deep color, luster, and softness that develop with continued use, a finish unique to the brand that even incorporates the process and progression of its design.
Each school bag is carefully handcrafted by artisans, and features unique characteristics such as natural scratches and blood vessels, as well as the carefully polished edges of the cover, which bring out the texture of the vegetable-tanned leather.

In addition, to ensure that the bag can be used for six years of school, the vegetable-tanned leather is pit-tanned to increase durability, and oil and wax are added during the finishing process to make water stains less noticeable, making it a unique design that can be tailored to suit different uses.
Two models are available: a full leather type made from leather all the way through to the body, and a type with a synthetic leather body combined with a leather cover. Both types are available in two colors: natural and black.
Orders are now being accepted at the Isetan Mitsukoshi online store, followed by an order event at the Isetan Shinjuku store from April 30th to July 31st, and at two Hender Scheme directly operated SKIMA stores (Ebisu and EC site) from July 20th. Delivery is scheduled for mid-March, in time for the spring 2020 school entrance exams. Orders for each type will end once the specified number has been reached.
