Presented at Paris Fashion Week, the Paul Smith Men's Fall/Winter 2023 collection draws inspiration from the work of pioneering modernist designers and architects. It features a reinterpretation of tailoring, a contemporary interpretation of traditional fabrics, and a collage of bold abstract prints.

This season's collection explores Paul Smith's tailoring heritage and print knowledge with a more free-flowing narrative. Like the modernism that inspired the collection, silhouettes evolve from sharp, geometric lines to softer lines. Windproof and waterproof cocoon-style outerwear is paired with clean-cut tailored trousers, while oversized, stepped-hem shirts and ties are styled with tailoring and technical outerwear. Elsewhere, long tailored trousers, with adjustable snap buttons and slits to add volume, are paired with trimmed overcoats and cropped bomber and blouson jackets.

The three-piece suit introduced in Spring/Summer 2023 continues to evolve this season with a minimalist crew neck vest and a flowing longline jacket. Paul Smith's signature motif, the Signature Stripe, appears in black and white as a tonal embossed Shadow Stripe on outerwear, accessories and shoes.

The color palette is dominated by black, gray, white and vibrant cobalt blue, juxtaposed with warm, autumnal tones of burgundy, brown and mauve, providing a graphic counterpoint to the collection.

This season's abstract and eclectic prints were inspired by Paul's collection of found vintage rugs and textiles. Found on shirts and knitwear, the "Rug" print is a patchwork of motifs, textures and florals, some of which are rendered on an oversized scale, referencing interior design and architectural patterns. Another graphic print, "Big Floral," adds a bold accent to the collection, appearing on knitwear, scarves, lapel pins and outerwear.

Meanwhile, classic fabrics such as tweed, houndstooth and boucle are reinterpreted to offer innovative textures. Flex prints and knits, for example, revisit and modernize the classic menswear fabric, tweed. Similarly, a range of check patterns, including windowpane and Prince of Wales, inspired by the Paul Smith archives, emphasise the brand's rich heritage and this season's themes, while also providing a foundation for the colours and prints.

The show also marks the debut of a Mulberry and Paul Smith bag collection. Expressing both companies' British heritage and commitment to craftsmanship, the unisex collaborative bag reimagines Mulberry's classic Antony messenger bag with Paul Smith's signature striped webbing strap, bold color blocking and shadow stripe embossing. The collection also includes two new models, the Antony Clip and Antony Tote, both of which are made in Mulberry's carbon-neutral Somerset factory in the UK from leather sourced from Leather Working Group (LWG) certified Gold tanners.

Celebrated British DJ Gilles Peterson provided the music for the Paul Smith Fall/Winter 2023 Men's Show, which was held at the American Cathedral, a landmark of Parisian Gothic Revival architecture. A diverse blend of musical genres including hip hop, jazz, spoken word, groove, dub, bassline, Afrobeat and funk express the collection's confident mood.
