[Cannes Film Festival] Check out the gorgeous actresses' dresses. A "beauty contest" on the red carpet

May 14, 2015

The 68th Cannes Film Festival kicked off on the 13th (local time) in Cannes, southern France. Every year, along with the eagerly awaited new films from masters and rising stars from around the world, the glamorous dresses worn by the actresses also garner significant attention. But what about this year?

From the opening ceremony on the first day, a string of big names attended, and the red carpet was lit up by a storm of flashes from reporters from around the world. Among them, Julianne Moore, winner of this year's Academy Award for Best Actress, appeared in a Giorgio Armani PRIVE dress that was plunging from neck to waist. The gorgeous top, decorated with feathers and embroidered with aqua and black Swarovski crystals, captivated the audience. Like Moore, dresses with sexy, deep V-necklines were a popular choice this year. Naomi Watts, who plays the heroine of director Gus Van Sant's latest film, "The Sea of Trees," appeared wearing a plunging neckline from Bvlgari's new high jewelry collection, "Giardini Italiani." The diamond necklace, inspired by the renowned beauty of Italian gardens, evokes a Roman-inspired Renaissance flowerbed. Its glamorous sparkle, set against an Elie Saab dress, garnered significant attention. Natalie Portman, who has been the face of Miss Dior since 2010, also appeared in a crimson Dior dress, shoes, and clutch. Her eyeshadow, accented with a striking brown gradient, was also designed by Dior. She attended the festival with her husband, choreographer Benjamin Millepied, promoting her directorial debut, "A Tale of Love and Darkness." Other notable guests included Sienna Miller, who appeared in a navy blue Lanvin dress, and Victoria's Secret Angel model Doutzen Kroes, who dazzled in a pure white Atelier Versace dress with a bold slit. This year's crimson carpet was once again a vibrant scene. Incidentally, Japanese actresses Haruka Ayase, Masami Nagasawa, Kaho, and Suzu Hirose, who play the four sisters in Hirokazu Koreeda's latest film, Our Little Sister, are scheduled to walk the red carpet on the evening of the 14th (local time). Attention is focused on what they will wear.
