Plans are apparently underway to turn the smash hit film "The Devil Wears Prada" (2006), starring Anne Hathaway and Meryl Streep and depicting the behind-the-scenes of the glamorous fashion industry, into a Broadway musical.
The story follows the protagonist, Andrea, an aspiring journalist with no interest in fashion, who happens to get a job at a prestigious fashion magazine, where she grows positively despite being manipulated by her devilish boss.
In the film, Meryl Streep plays Miranda, modeled after Anna Wintour, the "fierce" editor-in-chief of American Vogue, and Anne Hathaway plays her assistant, Andrea. When the film was released, it captivated many women with the numerous fashions featured in the film, including Prada, and lines that seemed to speak for the hearts of working women. The news of the musical was revealed in an interview with the Associated Press by Kevin McCallum, a renowned producer with extensive experience in Broadway productions. McCallum has won four Tony Awards, the "stage equivalent of the Oscars," for Best Musical. In 2013, he partnered with 20th Century Fox on a project to adapt their films into musicals. In addition to "The Devil Wears Prada," McCallum is also interested in adapting "Mrs. Doubtfire," the hit starring Robin Williams, who passed away last year. While details about the musical, including the release date and cast and crew, are currently unknown, the film's cast has previously expressed interest in appearing in the stage adaptation, leading to speculation in international media that original cast members such as Anne Hathaway may be cast. This is likely to attract significant attention.
By the way, Anne Hathaway has not said anything about this project on her social media accounts since the story first surfaced.
