The 68th Cannes Film Festival, to be held on May 13th, will launch the inaugural "Women in Motion" program, highlighting the contributions of women to film. This program is being implemented in collaboration with the Festival de Cannes by Kering, a company that has been actively involved in funding film productions, restoring films, and producing documentaries. The two companies will partner for the next five years to explore the Festival de Cannes' vision of becoming an "open, modern film festival." One of the program's initiatives is a series of talks featuring prominent figures attending the festival. The talks will cover a variety of topics related to film and women, including the status and roles of women in the film industry, the representation of women in films, and the unique narrative perspectives and unique ways of thinking that women bring to filmmaking. Thierry Frémaux, Festival de Cannes's general director, will be the guest of the inaugural event. In parallel with this, the "Women in Motion" Award will be established to recognize individuals who have contributed to the advancement of women in the film industry. The recipient will be a young, talented female film director. The recipient will receive funding to produce a film.
In addition, on May 17th, a presidential dinner will be held hosted by Pierre Lescure, president of the Cannes Film Festival, and François-Henri Pinault, chairman and CEO of Kering. A special award will be presented to commemorate the launch of "Women in Motion."
Regarding this program, François-Henri Pinault said, "Women's artistic sensibility and the stories they tell are essential elements that enrich the world of film. Considering the impact that film has on our way of thinking and our daily actions, it is extremely meaningful to increase the visibility of women in film."
