MOON FACTORY COFFEE, located in the Sangenjaya Triangle, is the second branch of ELEPHANT FACTORY COFFEE, the original coffee shop in Kyoto. Following the crescent moon sign, you climb the steep stairs to enter the shop, where you'll find yourself enveloped in a quiet, tranquil space, a stark contrast to the bustling cityscape. The aroma of coffee and the soft lighting of the shade lamps will leave you feeling at ease.

The background music of this shop is the gentle sounds of records playing, the sound of water boiling in the kettle, the sound of dishes being piled on top of each other, and faint chatter. The shop is furnished with vintage furniture, with tables and mismatched chairs. There are also many counter seats inside, making it a comfortable space to spend some time alone.








This time, I ordered the shop's popular "Deep Blend EF Blend 7." The carefully hand-dripped coffee is made with beans from Toto, a coffee shop and roastery in Bihoro, Hokkaido.



With just the right amount of bitterness, deep richness, and a mellow, easy-to-drink coffee, even I, who usually add sugar and milk, find myself wanting to drink it black at this shop. The raisin chocolates that accompany the coffee are also a nice touch, keeping you feeling happy until you finish your drink.

We also highly recommend the "Homemade Mini Chocolate Cake," which has a texture like raw chocolate and the flavor of cocoa spreads throughout your mouth, and the "Homemade Mini Cheesecake," which is characterized by its rich and smooth cream. It's so delicious that it will bring a smile to your face. Let it melt in your mouth little by little and enjoy the marriage with coffee.

If you're in the mood for tea, CHA YUAN, a tea specialty store with its main store in Lyon, France, has a wide selection of Earl Grey and other flavored teas. For those feeling a little peckish, we also recommend pizza toast made with natural yeast bread.

Elephant Factory Coffee in Kyoto has a similar atmosphere. When I'm on a business trip for an interview, one of the things I look forward to is relaxing with a cup of coffee here, a novel in hand, before returning to my lodging.



"We collect items that go well with coffee," says the shop's owner, Mr. Ozaki. The shop also sells books that are selected by Ikkaku Bunko every two months.
