Shiseido's corporate culture magazine Hanatsubaki and Shiseido Gallery will be holding the "SHISEIDO Hanatsubaki GALLERY Mini" in collaboration with Sony Park Mini from December 5th to December 18th, 2022, at Sony Park Mini (1-3-1 Ginza 5-chome, Chuo-ku, Tokyo, Nishiginza Parking Lot, B1F).

This program was jointly planned by Hanatsubaki, which was published in 1937, and Shiseido Gallery, which opened in 1919 (1st basement floor, Tokyo Ginza Shiseido Building, 8-8-3 Ginza, Chuo-ku). Sony Park Mini, also located in Ginza, will be considered a miniature version of the Shiseido Gallery, and the program will involve creating a three-dimensional version of the 2022 150th anniversary issue of Hanatsubaki (published in September 2022, hereafter referred to as the 2022 Hanatsubaki commemorative issue).

Nerhol and Miyanaga Aiko, artists participating in the group exhibition "Tsubaki Kai 8" currently being held at the Shiseido Gallery, have created works related to the 150th anniversary of Shiseido's founding as part of a feature in the 2022 commemorative issue of Hanatsubaki. "SHISEIDO Hanatsubaki GALLERY Mini" will feature an exhibition of Nerhol's works featured in the magazine, as well as a screening of a film documenting the Ginza streets of approximately 90 years ago, which served as the subject matter for the work's creation. Miyanaga Aiko will exhibit glass made from soil excavated from Ginza Hanatsubaki Street.

About the Exhibited Works
■Nerhol's Works
In planning the 2022 commemorative issue of Hanatsubaki, Nerhol focused on the time Shiseido has accumulated since its founding in 1872 and created a work based on archived footage housed at the Shiseido Corporate Museum (Kakegawa City, Shizuoka Prefecture). This program will feature a total of seven works, including some published in the magazine and some not. In addition, a video recording of Ginza from approximately 90 years ago, one of the subjects of the work, will be projected in the venue.

■ Miyanaga Aiko's Works
As part of the planning for the 2022 commemorative issue of Hanatsubaki, Miyanaga Aiko focused on "people's memories caused by the act of putting on makeup" and created works using naphthalene models of Shiseido cosmetics. These works are currently on display at the Shiseido Gallery. This program will feature glass made from soil excavated from Hanatsubaki Street in Ginza.

■Profiles of artists participating in this program
Nerhol is an artist duo consisting of Yoshihisa Tanaka and Ryuta Iida. After presenting three-dimensional works created by bundling and carving hundreds of prints taken in rapid succession, they have since created works that distort the time axis inherent in various motifs, including portraits, street trees, animals, water, and archival footage uploaded to online spaces. Their work consistently attempts to unravel the multilayered existence inherent in organic matter, which is often overlooked in our daily lives. Recent solo exhibitions include "Interview, Portrait, House and Room" at Younggeun Museum of Contemporary Art, South Korea (2017) and "Nerhol Promenade" at 21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art, Kanazawa (2016). Recipient of the 2020 VOCA Award. Aiko Miyanaga was born in 1974 and is a contemporary artist from Kyoto City, Kyoto Prefecture. A graduate of the 3rd Shiseido Art Egg, she graduated from the Kyoto University of Art and Design Faculty of Fine Arts, Department of Sculpture, and completed her Master's degree in Intermedia Art at the Tokyo University of the Arts Graduate School of Fine Arts. She spent one year in Edinburgh, UK, under the Agency for Cultural Affairs' Emerging Artist Overseas Study Program in 2006. She received the 22nd Goto Memorial Cultural Award for New Artists, which allowed her to base her activities in the US since 2011. She has attracted attention for her works that visualize time using traces of presence, such as objects made from everyday items using naphthalene and installations using salt. Her major solo exhibitions include "Floating Waves" at the Kyoto City Museum of Art (2020) and "Miyanaga Aiko: Rowing Technique" at the Takamatsu Art Museum (2019). She received the Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology's Art Encouragement Prize for New Artists in 2019. She is the first Tsubaki-kai member from Art Egg.
