Matcha beer is a hot topic online, even becoming a trending topic on Twitter. Its striking, bright green appearance, reminiscent of green juice, and unique flavor have garnered attention, and a "Matcha Beer Garden" event has been announced for the summer only, starting June 1st at the Ochanomizu Japanese tea restaurant "GREEN TEA RESTAURANT 1899 OCHANOMIZU." This popular beer, made with a unique matcha blend, boasts an exquisite harmony of the bitterness of barley and matcha. This "Matcha Beer Garden" is being organized by Ryumeikan, a hotel, inn, and restaurant operator with 117 years of history. The highlight of the event will be matcha beer poured by "chavarie," a dedicated staff member with extensive tea knowledge. In addition to the regular beers, this time around, you can try the new "Matcha Dark Beer," which combines the richness and aroma of dark beer with the bitterness of matcha for a more mature flavor, and the light, easy-to-drink "Non-Alcoholic Matcha Beer." Six colorful beers, including regular beer, dark beer, and a half-and-half mix of beer and dark beer, are available for two hours for 3,500 yen. Also available is the "Snack Set" (1 portion: 1,500 yen, tax included), which includes five tea dishes. This five-item tea-themed assortment includes the strikingly bright green "Matcha Potato Salad," "Green Tea Potato Fries" (choose from three flavors, sprinkled generously with matcha, sencha, or roasted green tea leaves), "Braised Pork Kakuri with Matcha Miso Sauce" stewed in sencha tea, "Vegetable Sticks" with matcha mayonnaise, and "Domestic Green Tea Beans." (Some menu items can also be ordered individually.) Other dishes include salads with sencha dressing, steaks with matcha miso sauce, and dishes made with tea oil made from tea leaves soaked in oil for approximately two months.
The "Matcha Beer Garden" has 32 seats on the outdoor terrace and 48 seats in the calm interior space with a wood grain motif. Each table is equipped with a Japanese version of an aroma pot, a "tea incense burner," in which fragrant roasted green tea is burned, creating a space where you can enjoy the tea's aroma as well.
