This time, "SOUL CAMP" will be held at the Isetan Shinjuku Main Building, 6th floor, Event Hall, from September 12th to 17th. We asked three common questions to the artists performing live painting at "SOUL CAMP 2018 at ISETAN." Their answers, revealing their individual personalities, are sure to raise expectations for the performance.
Common Questions for the 9 Artists Performing Live Painting at "SOUL CAMP 2018 at ISETAN"
--When you hear the themes "SOUL CAMP" and "hip hop," what kind of painting do you imagine you'll be painting?
"I try not to be too conscious of it. I personally like artists with a broad perspective who aren't bound by genre. I hope to be able to express my own unique style through my own interpretation."
--Please tell us about your enthusiasm for performing a "live painting" in the unusual environment of Isetan Shinjuku.
"I'm really happy that my work will be seen by a large number of people, and that it will give me the opportunity to interact with people from cultures that I don't normally interact with. I think there are people who are particular about being underground, but I want to act on my own merits and be open-minded, so if the opportunity arises, I'd like to actively go out into wider circles."
--What aspects of your work do you want customers to see?
"I think that's up to the viewer. I have a clear message I want to convey, but I hope that people will see it and feel something through their own filter. I don't want to force my opinions on others, and for example, with movies or music, even though the creator has a certain intention, I think the recipient receives something that is infinitely different. I think that's fine with art."
