Nobuyoshi Araki holds solo exhibition at Taka Ishii Gallery Photography/Film. The world of reflections seen from "the afterlife"

May 25, 2015

Photographer Nobuyoshi Araki's solo exhibition will be held at Taka Ishii Gallery Photography/Film in Roppongi, Tokyo, from May 25 to June 20. After battling prostate cancer and central retinal artery occlusion in 2013, he lost sight in his right eye. This exhibition features his latest color and monochrome works, a work that continues to capture his energetic work as ever. "Now, I'm looking at the world from the other side of the sky, from the depths of my eternal life. That's why it's a mirror image," Araki says of this work. He mirrors everyday scenes, reflecting his desire to "see the world from the other side of the mirror, which symbolizes eternal life." The color photographs, taken on 6x7 positive film since spring this year, and the dated monochrome photographs capture his current state of mind as he transitions from "death" to "life."

In addition, a catalogue of the exhibition (12,000 yen) featuring 173 works by Nobuyoshi Araki will be published in a limited edition of 500 copies.
