Taka Ishii Gallery in Kiyosumi Shirakawa, Tokyo, will be hosting photographer Nobuyoshi Araki's solo exhibition "Love on the Left Eye" from May 25th to June 21st. This exhibition, his 21st with the gallery, features 65 works selected from his latest shoots. The title alludes to Dutch photographer Ed van der Elsken's 1954 photobook "Love on the Left Bank," and Araki has been photographing women in the same poses featured in the book since he was 20 years old. Araki has survived prostate cancer and lost sight in his right eye last October due to central retinal artery occlusion. However, he continues to photograph, saying, "Death is coming toward me. I have to blow it away." In this series, which consists of hundreds of images, the right side of the photographed positive film is filled in with black magic marker, and then photographs are printed that project the field of view of the left and right eyes. A photo book of the same name will also be released on May 25th, limited to 300 copies.
