The "Hiroshima Appeals" exhibition, organized by the Japan Graphic Designers Association Inc. (JAGDA) and 21_21 DESIGN SIGHT in Roppongi, opened on August 4th at 21_21 DESIGN SIGHT Gallery 3. A preview for the press was held on August 3rd, the day before the opening, revealing the details of the exhibition.

Hiroshima Appeals is an exhibition organized by the Japan Graphic Designers Association Inc. (JAGDA), the Hiroshima Peace Creation Fund, and the Hiroshima International Cultural Foundation to keep the memory of the atomic bombing alive and to widely communicate the desire for peace. Each year, one graphic designer creates a poster embodying the "Spirit of Hiroshima" and distributes it both domestically and internationally. This exhibition will feature a total of 21 works, from the inaugural "Burning Falling Butterfly" by Yusaku Kamekura, created in 1983, to this year's "Question Mark, 2018" by Kazunari Hattori. There will also be a special exhibit of works by Osamu Kataoka, who was exposed to the atomic bomb at the age of 13 and created 72 posters expressing his desire for peace until his death at the age of 65. At the preview, Shuzo Osako, Secretary General of the Japan Graphic Designers Association, said, "Hiroshima Appeals is a great asset for Japanese graphic designers. I hope that when you see the posters, something will remain in your heart."

Katsumi Asaba, former president of JAGDA and art director of the exhibition, said, "I want people to be aware that Japan is the first country in the world to have been hit by an atomic bomb, and to think about not going to war and about world peace, and I would like to take this exhibition to the world."
