Makiko Tanaka was born in Tokyo in 1975. After being selected for the 12th Taro Okamoto Art Award, she became a trainee under the Agency for Cultural Affairs' Emerging Artists Dispatch Program in 2013, and has since been based in France. Tanaka's unique world of work has earned her widespread support, and she is an artist active in fields beyond the art scene. She designed and animated "Macaron Baby," the symbol of the Pierre Hermé Paris Japon Aoyama store, and writes a series of animations and columns titled "Fantasy Gastronomy" on the theme of seasonal Parisian ingredients for the Shiseido Hanatsubaki online magazine. Until now, Makiko Tanaka has used a variety of media, including pencil, pastel, oil paint, and ceramic sculpture, to create a world of fantastical beauty fueled by her overflowing imagination. While previously creating paintings using a heavy-handed technique, in recent years she has also begun to create many works finished with lighter touches, such as watercolors, adding a humorous and charming charm to her work.
Also, from August 3rd, the new collection of works "Vu Vu" (published by HeHe), collaboration goods between Shiseido's "Hanatsubaki" and Shiseido Parlour (masking tape, Shiseido Parlour original sugar candy), and original Tanaka Makiko goods (T-shirts, iPhone cases, stickers, etc.) made by NADiff will go on sale.
