Sogo & Seibu announced its May sales report. Companywide sales increased 2.6% year-on-year. The flagship store, Seibu Ikebukuro Main Store, saw a 5.1% increase. Sogo Yokohama Store, which underwent a major renovation last fall and strengthened its in-house curated sales area, also saw a 6.3% increase in sales. Seibu Ikebukuro Main Store recorded its fifth consecutive month of year-on-year growth, while Sogo Yokohama Store recorded its 10th consecutive month of year-on-year growth.

Sales in May got off to a strong start during Golden Week at the beginning of the month, and steady sales continued during the Mother's Day shopping season. With temperatures rising from the middle of the month, early summer fashions for both men and women flourished. In-house products, which the company is strengthening across all areas, maintained a high growth rate of 243% year-on-year. In particular, existing limited-edition brands such as Atsuro Tayama, Junko Shimada, and Viva You were well-received, leading to a bottom-up boost for the entire in-house product line.

By category, sales of high-priced items such as women's specials, jewelry, and watches continued to be strong. Triggered by the "Large Art Exhibition" held at Seibu Shibuya from May 10th to 15th, there was also a noticeable movement in art.
