"Human Anatomy," a new solo exhibition by artist Kataoka Meriyasu, who captivates audiences with his stuffed animals, moving toys, and light-up toys, will be held at Gallery VOILLD in Nakameguro from April 6th to 29th.

This exhibition marks Kataoka Meriyasu's second at VOILLD, following his solo exhibition "Motor Show" in 2016. Kataoka continues to create a wide range of expressive works, primarily focusing on stuffed animals made from fabric, but also combining a variety of materials such as toys, wood, and occasionally machines and ceramics. He is also active in a wide range of fields, including drawing, sculpture, furniture, and collaborations with artists from different genres.
Kataoka's fluffy, soft, and charming works each have their own unique character, exuding a vitality and warmth that makes them seem almost alive. They evoke a nostalgic feeling of childhood pastimes and the joy of dreaming, which we forget as we grow older. The works brought to life by Kataoka Meriyasu transcend the concept of "stuffed animals" and appeal to our thoughts about our own interests and attachments to objects, which change with each generation. They may also offer an opportunity to rediscover forgotten emotions and cherished moments.
For this exhibition, Kataoka Meriyasu has explored how he can express the major theme of the "human body," which has intrigued him in recent years, through stuffed animals. This work represents a new challenge: what kind of chemical reaction will occur when he uses the "human body," a motif with a texture that contrasts with Kataoka Meriyasu's previous works? The exhibition will feature approximately 100 pieces, including three-dimensional works based on stuffed animals, as well as flat drawings. In addition, original items featuring new works, newly developed for this exhibition, will also be available for purchase.
