PRADA's 2018-19 Fall/Winter collection was presented in Milan on January 14th. The venue changed from the company's headquarters, where the show had previously been held, to the Prada Warehouse, a warehouse surrounded by packed luggage bearing a variety of catchy icons and logos.
The show started with men's models wearing black nylon short-sleeved shirt jackets and pullovers. It had been announced in advance that for this year's show, Prada would commission four designers to create items using Prada's iconic black nylon material, as part of a project called "Prada Invites." The collaborations with world-renowned architects and interior and product designers Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec, Konstantin Grcic, Herzog & de Meuron, and Rem Koolhaas appeared midway through the show, wearing a yellow hat paired with an all-black outfit. A leather jacket layered over a nylon coat, a camel coat with wide lapels, and an oversized green coat with a coated hem continued the collection, with signature Prada pieces appearing throughout. Nearly every look featured ID tags on the chest or pocket, and long-strap pass cases were also a key item this season. Furthermore, prints from Prada's archives, such as bananas, Hawaiian motifs, lips, flames, and collaborative prints with artists, were mixed with stripes, geometric prints, and chevron-striped jacquard knitwear. The triangle logo and even the Prada Sport red tag make an appearance, making this a Prada omnibus.
In an era when designers at famous fashion houses are constantly changing and archive remakes are garnering attention in the market, this season can be seen as Miuccia Prada's manifesto for the next era. I'm looking forward to seeing what happens next in this omnibus.
