Colorful bats and gloves join Coach baseball collection

Jun 20, 2013

COACH has announced the new Heritage Baseball Collection, inspired by the brand's baseball roots. This year's collection, the brand's third, features a lineup of gloves and bats featuring colorful color blocking. The gloves are handmade by The Valkyrie Co., a family-run leather workshop in Worcester, Massachusetts, USA, using full-grain leather. Available in six colors, each costs ¥42,000. The bats were created in collaboration with Ben Jenkins, owner and designer of Warstic in Texas. Each bat is hand-dyed. Available in four colors, each costs ¥39,900. Available at Coach Ginza, Marunouchi, Omotesando, Umeda Herbis ENT, and the official online store. On its official Facebook page, a limited-time campaign is running until June 30th where customers can create their own original cover photo.

Coach, which was founded in 1941, produced men's leather accessories using the same leather as the gloves worn by major leaguers such as Ted Williams and Joe DiMaggio, who were active at the time of the company's founding. Using this leather as a base, the brand's signature leather material, "Glovetanned Leather," was developed. Last year's baseball collection featured a Japan-only campaign where customers could customize their own worn-out baseball gloves into wallets at Coach's workshop.
