This special standalone exhibition has been decided to commemorate the 110th anniversary of Matsumoto City's establishment as a municipal government and the 15th anniversary of the opening of the Matsumoto City Museum of Art. Yayoi Kusama has held three exhibitions at the Matsumoto City Museum of Art, beginning with the museum's inaugural exhibition, followed by "The Place of Yayoi Kusama's Soul" in 2005 and "Yayoi Kusama: Eternal Eternity" in 2012. Having passionately continued to paint in order to escape the terror of her hallucinatory experiences, Yayoi Kusama has established herself as a global artist, and her exhibitions around the world continue to break records in terms of attendance.
Why has Yayoi Kusama been so enthusiastically embraced by people around the world? Youth lost in war, peace, and love. Through her art, Kusama conveys some of the most universal and important messages for humanity.

The exhibition begins with the permanent works "Phantom Flower" and "From Matsumoto to the Future" at the museum's entrance. The first room features rare works from before KUSAMA left for the US in 1957, such as "Atomic Bomb," as well as the Infinity Net series and soft sculptures that sparked his breakthrough in New York, collages that marked the beginning of his career after returning to Japan, the infinity of mesh and polka dots, and three-dimensional works, among other recent installations. Next, in the second exhibition space, visitors enter a darkened space showcasing three-dimensional works that express infinity through light and mirrors. Passing through this space is the exhibition space for "My Eternal Soul," Kusama's latest series, which she has been working on since 2009 and has produced over 550 pieces. Of the approximately 70 works in this series, half are being shown in Japan for the first time, and many are making their world premiere. Finally, in the final space, visitors can enter the mirror room "All the Endless Love for the Pumpkin," making its Japan debut. Experience the world of Yayoi Kusama through the approximately 180 works on display, including her poetic side, video, and installations. Balloon works, polka dot obsessions, and pumpkin sculptures will also be on display in the free viewing areas both inside and outside the museum. Advance tickets (¥2,200 including tax) will go on sale starting January 20. The set includes a new version of the keychain, the "New YAYOI-chan Plush," which was sold exclusively at the exhibition "Yayoi Kusama: My Eternal Soul" held at the National Art Center, Tokyo, and was so popular that it sold out before the exhibition even ended.
Pre-sale tickets with the "New YAYOI-chan Plush" will be available exclusively at Seven Tickets and Lawson Tickets until March 2nd, and will end when sold out. General advance tickets will go on sale from February 1st.
