Inspired by the iconic white coats worn by Maison Margiela staff, the white version is a first in Mackintosh's extensive color palette.
The white coat is longer than the existing ’Mac’ coat and reflects the attitude of a white coat, incorporating the Maison's iconic details throughout, such as white horn buttons, steel eyelets, and four white stitches.

The other design is based on a coat from Mackintosh's archives and employs the ’decortiqué’ technique introduced by creative director John Galliano in his Spring/Summer 2017 "Artisanal" collection.
’Décortiqu’ is a technique in which a garment is cut out, leaving only its essential outline, revealing the lining and underlying structure of the garment that are normally hidden. While the fabric and details remain the same, the collar and cuffs feature a décolleté, evolving the traditional form into a modern and innovative style.
Each coat is handcrafted using a unique technique developed in 1823 by Mackintosh's founder, Charles Mackintosh. The fabric, made by applying rubber between two layers of fabric and pressing them together, is highly waterproof, and all seams are seamless, sealed with tape and special adhesives.
The two numbered coat styles will be available from mid-January 2018 at Maison Margiela stores, Mackintosh flagship stores, and select boutiques worldwide.
