On the 12th, Christian Louboutin opened a shoe salon at Saks Fifth Avenue, its new flagship store in New York. To commemorate this, a special short film was released.
The film features designer Christian Louboutin himself. It tells the story of a red sole he created traveling across the ocean from Paris to the newly opened Saks salon.
The new shop is the largest of the brand's stores, measuring approximately 152 square meters. The interior design was created in collaboration between Louboutin and New York-based architectural design firm 212box.
The store is carpeted in the brand's signature red, and fossils discovered by Louboutin in Morocco are on display. Handbags, shoes, and limited edition items are available.
Louboutin opened its first shop in Paris in 1992 and currently operates 63 directly operated stores worldwide. 2012 marked the 20th anniversary of the company's founding, with the release of a commemorative book and collaborations with Parisian cabaret Crazy Horse and Disney Studios. A retrospective exhibition was held at London's Design Museum this spring. The exhibition is scheduled to tour the world, and will also be held in Toronto, Canada this summer.
