G.V.G.V. has unveiled its 2013 Spring/Summer collection. The theme, "Insectopia," combines insects and utopia.
The first half of the collection features sherbet green and pale blue floral prints. However, with the introduction of a dress printed with insect wing patterns, the colors gradually take on a sinister quality. Inspired by subtropical insects, various items feature blurred green prints on a black background, orange polka dots on a navy background, and graphics resembling the surface patterns of insects' bodies. Futuristic materials include slippery patent leather and iridescent leather.
The silhouettes are also inspired by insects. Cocoon silhouettes reminiscent of eyebrows or pupae are featured. Skirts feature waist tucks and horizontal darts folded into the tips to create a rounded silhouette. Tops feature side sleeves and darts at the elbows, creating a curved silhouette. The dresses feature complex pattern changes and tucks, revealing details reminiscent of insect segments. A flared skirt sewn over a tight skirt evokes the overlapping of wings, suggesting a layered silhouette.
"I wanted to portray a futuristic utopia. I incorporated insect elements into the prints and cutting," said designer MUG.
