Frank Horvat, a leading figure in the golden age of fashion photography, to hold photo exhibition at Chanel Nexus Hall in Ginza

Event Date:2018.01.17-02.18
Nov 12, 2017

The Frank Horvat Photo Exhibition, "Un moment d'une femme," will be held at the Chanel Nexus Hall, an event space within the Chanel Ginza Building, from January 17th.

Photographer Frank Horvat was born in 1928 in the Adriatic coastal town of Opatija (then part of Italy, now part of Croatia). Continuing to take photographs while traveling around the world, including Pakistan, India, and the UK, Horvat relocated to Paris in 1954 and focused on fashion-related work. He brought a breath of fresh air to the world of fashion photography with his innovative approach, incorporating unusual compositions and a reportage-like sensibility, and is known as one of the photographers who led the genre's golden age.

This photo exhibition, Frank Horvat's first full-scale solo exhibition in Japan, will focus on "women" and will feature a number of memorable works that offer a glimpse into the colorful life of Horvat, who turns 90 this year, including not only his famous fashion photographs that symbolize him, but also his masterpieces that have had a huge influence on future generations, his early journalistic works, images of women captured by his continued fascination with fashion capitals and the women who gather there, and personal projects themed around people, cities, landscapes, and sculptures.

The exhibition will also travel to Kyoto as part of the KYOTOGRAPHIE Kyoto International Photography Festival, an international photography festival to be held in April.
