Marimekko unveiled its Spring/Summer 2018 collection at the Palais de Tokyo in Paris on October 1st. This season's collection, unveiled in a presentation format, was themed around the "art of printmaking," the true essence of Finland's proud design house. The brand's iconic textiles, such as Unikko, Rocchi, and Piccolo, are presented in vibrant colors, with long and wide silhouettes that exude a relaxed feel perfect for spring and summer. The patterns, which are in vivid and botanical colors, seem to be in dialogue with each other, and are inspired by the brand's heritage and growth story. Stripes, available in a variety of variations, were featured on sets, midi-length dresses, and shirts. Simple yet striking touches, such as asymmetrical hems, diagonal waistlines, and gathered collars, transformed the pieces into modern wardrobe pieces that blend seamlessly into everyday wear. Archive prints from the 1950s and 1960s, featured on shirt dresses and pants, were updated for a contemporary resort look. Smooth leather shoes added just the right amount of spice to complete the relaxed mood. The classic Unikko was featured in a blue base with red petals for a striking contrast, while a chic black was featured on maxi dresses and sets. Furthermore, minimalist wear suitable for everyday urban women, such as elegant dresses with draped fronts and wide-leg pants with waist ties, was proposed. The collection's unique blend of original prints and modern silhouettes clearly embodied Marimekko's signature style.
