Maison Margiela will open pop-up stores in two department stores in Tokyo on October 18th, focusing on Tabi shoes. The pop-up store, titled "Discover the Maison Margiela 'Tabi' story," will feature the full lineup of Tabi shoes, from iconic shoes of the season, such as the new oversized boots unveiled in the Fall/Winter 2017 "Avant Premiere" collection and the cutout-detailed décolleté boots that appeared on the runway in the "Défilé" collection, to classic ankle boots and ballet flats, as well as strappy sandals and wedge sandals with an active appeal. The pop-up will tell the story of Tabi, a shoe that transforms and evolves while blending the Maison's DNA with the poetic vision of creative director John Galliano.

Inspired by traditional Japanese footwear, "Tabi" is the Maison's signature shoe. It began as a boot featuring a tabi-shaped toe and cylindrical heel, and has been updated each season with a variety of colors, finishes, and shapes, continuing to evolve to this day.
