Chloé, under the direction of newly appointed creative director Natacha Ramsay-Levi, held its Spring/Summer 2018 collection show in a gallery space attached to the Chloé headquarters, which just opened in July of this year.
Natacha Ramsay-Levi built her career at Balenciaga (under Nicolas Ghesquière) and Louis Vuitton, and became Chloé's creative director in April of this year. She is the first French creative director to hold the position in 29 years, since Martine Sitbon.
This season, while delving into the archives of past designers such as Karl Lagerfeld, the collection expressed the vitality of women through clothing, using motifs of parts of the female body. While firmly adhering to the earthy color palette of founder Gaby Aghion, a code for Chloé, the collection mixes a variety of inspirations, including Victorian style, to create a unique worldview.
Rings are used as decoration on English lace, portraying a delicate yet edgy and strong feminine image. Chloé's signature masculine-feminine pieces, such as rider jackets and coats with large 1960s-style collars, are also present. What particularly caught the eye this time were prints featuring motifs such as eyes, hands, and plants. They exuded a somewhat spiritual atmosphere, strongly expressing Ramsay-Levi's individuality. Also distinctive was a horse embroidered set inspired by equestrianism, which is likely to become an iconic item representing this season.
