Miu Miu's Layered Aesthetics [Spring/Summer 2018 Women's Collection]

Oct 11, 2017

Miuccia Prada's Miu Miu Spring/Summer 2018 women's collection show was held at the Palais de Jena (Economic, Social and Environmental Conference Centre) in Paris. As rock music blared, models appeared with an American retro vibe reminiscent of the 1960s.

However, while the look was retro at first glance, the jackets and sleeveless shirts had an oversized, modern finish. The jackets featured detachable fabric collars with buttons, while the shirts featured faded leather collars. The looks were paired with single-pleat shorts or loose-fitting cropped pants. Lace see-through blouses and nylon see-through blouses were paired with tank tops to create a subdued sheerness.

Layering was also distinctive, with a lace see-through dress layered over a shirt and knitwear, or a retro checked shirt paired with a lace see-through dress and then a faded leather coat. A leather coat with a motif resembling a vinyl tablecloth also caught the eye.

Guipure lace dresses, muslin see-through dresses that make the checkered interior pop out, and floral print see-through dresses were also coordinated with tank tops as inner layers. Conversely, a nylon see-through shirt was paired with an embroidered sleeveless dress, yet still maintaining a subdued sheerness. It was by no means see-through for the sake of appearing sexy, but rather conveyed a strong will to wear sheer clothing for one's own sake. But that is also characteristic of Miu Miu.
