Sacai's Hybrid Style Accelerates [Women's Spring/Summer 2018]

Oct 9, 2017

Abe Chitose's sacai Spring/Summer 2018 women's collection show was held in the halls of the Grand Palais in Paris.

This season, many pieces featured multiple ways to wear. Examples included a short-sleeved shirt paired with a long-sleeved shirt, and an item that could be worn like a bustier thanks to an inner suspender belt, creating a layered, trompe-l'oeil look. Balenciaga also showed off the idea of combining different pieces into a single garment, albeit accidentally. With two noteworthy brands showcasing this, it could become a trend.

Sacai's signature mix of materials included Prince of Wales check and camouflage, as well as layering checks in similar colors. The playful use of colors, from similar tones to contrasting shades, created a refreshing spring/summer vibe.

What particularly caught the eye this season were the items made of multiple layers of small lace that gave off a patchwork look. To prevent it from looking too sweet, large zippers were added and it was trimmed in places with black tape. Another dress that appeared in the second half of the show, combining different prints in similar hues in a patchwork style, also left a strong impression.
