Acne Studios New Vintage [Women's Spring/Summer 2018]

Oct 9, 2017

Jonny Johansson's Acne Studios held its Spring/Summer 2018 women's collection show at the Pavillon Cambon, an event space in Paris. Based neither in Paris nor Milan, Acne Studios has always considered itself an outsider. Inspired by this position, this season's collection was inspired by the style of Jonny Johnson's friends, some of whom are not connected to the fashion industry. Cable knits and polo shirts were coated with resin, creating a mysterious, luminous texture. Jacquard striped knits and pants with beaded fringe exuded a retro feel. This time, the collection particularly incorporated vintage elements from the 1970s. However, rather than simply embracing a vintage feel, the collection added the brand's signature twist and humor, such as rivets in the shape of an alien face on a leather blouson. The pinstripe tailoring was particularly eye-catching. In fact, it was an extremely elaborate piece, with chains embroidered and then turned into fringe.

Even though the items may appear very conventional at first glance, they feature playful details and techniques, and even though they have a vintage feel, they are never seen before. This was a fresh collection that strongly expressed the creativity of Acne Studios.
