The world's only playful Louis Vuitton limited-edition store opens in Aoyama! Featuring Daruma and Kabuki motifs designed by Kansai Yamamoto

Sep 29, 2017

LOUIS VUITTON opened a pop-up store in Minami-Aoyama, Tokyo (5-2-13 Minami-Aoyama, Minato-ku, Tokyo) on September 29th, displaying carefully selected items from its 2018 Cruise Collection. The store will run until October 12th.

The collection show, which was held for the first time in Japan, also attracted attention for being held in the naturally rich environment of the MIHO MUSEUM in Shigaraki, Shiga Prefecture. Icons and symbols designed by Japanese designer Kansai Yamamoto, to which Nicolas Ghesquière, artistic director of the women's collection, paid homage, as well as kabuki masks and characters such as Daruma dolls, boldly adorned the collection look, showcasing a new and unprecedented side of Louis Vuitton.

The two-floor pop-up store features kabuki masks and eye motifs reminiscent of kumadori mascots adorning the windows, while the first floor welcomes visitors with installations themed around "harmony" and "festivals." Unique and highly artistic features include a row of Daruma dolls that move in response to the sound of Japanese drums, and a large Daruma doll photo spot where customers can insert their faces into the fisheye lenses for photos. Original textiles actually used in the collection also add a lively touch to the space, and dynamic video projections are also projected in the back of the store.

The second floor features a wide variety of items from this collection. The lineup includes a leather rider's jacket (560,000 yen) decorated with sequined Kabuki masks, as well as clothing, accessories, and leather goods featuring Daruma and Oiri motifs. Additionally, five Japan-exclusive items featuring Kansai Yamamoto's colorful and eye-catching daruma print will be available: the Zippy Wallet (long wallet) (94,000 yen), Zippy Coin Purse (46,000 yen), Portefeuille Victoire (compact wallet) (62,000 yen), Multicle 4 (key case) (27,000 yen), and iPhone 7 Folio (43,000 yen). Also available exclusively at the pop-up store are the Epi leather Alma PM (293,000 yen) featuring a kabuki mask, and the Monogram Reverse Canvas Petite Malle (595,000 yen) featuring kumadori and daruma designs.
