May 27, 2013

On the 25th, a pancake specialty store called "Berry Fancy" opened in Shinsaibashi, Osaka (2nd and 3rd floors of the Kurando Shinsaibashi Building, 1-5-24 Shinsaibashisuji, Chuo-ku, Osaka). It's operated by Berry Fancy International, a joint venture between fashion event planning company Drum Can Media and beauty salon operator Dear Corporation. Drum Can Media's Satoru Sugimoto serves as president. Sugimoto, nicknamed the "Pancake Prince," enjoys eating pancakes at various restaurants. He frequently posted photos of pancakes on Facebook, which led to a call from Dear Corporation's President Eiji Tamura, who approached him about opening a pancake specialty store together. The store has a two-story structure spanning two and three floors, totaling approximately 300 square meters. It seats 70. The second floor is the main area, while the third floor is a lounge-style space. The staff uniforms were designed by Hiroshi Ozawa of Numero Uno.

Berry Fancy's pancakes are made with a base of fine-grained, top-quality soft flour, a blend of carefully selected baking powder and buttermilk, and are baked with homemade fresh cheese kneaded into them. They aim for a moist and fluffy texture never before seen. Sweet pancakes include plain pancakes for 850 yen, apple and banana for 1,200 yen, and nuts for 1,300 yen. Homemade granola is also available for takeout, costing 500 yen for 150g.
