On September 18th, Erdem presented its Spring/Summer 2018 collection. Erdem Moralıoğlu, a mid-career designer in London, where opportunities for young designers abound, is steadily gaining ground. Born in Montreal, Canada, to a Turkish father and an English mother, he studied design at the Royal College of Art in London. After a year at Diane von Furstenberg, he founded his own brand in 2005. His signature pieces are floral and botanical prints and sharp, beautifully silhouetted dresses. Selected as H&M's collaboration brand this year, the full collection, due for release in November, is sure to garner attention. He explained that this season's collection was inspired by and paid homage to Queen Elizabeth II when she was young. The first look featured a long coat embroidered with brocade flowers. The front of the dress is slim-fitting, following the lines of the body, while the back is voluminous, allowing the hem to sway wildly with every step, creating a unique silhouette. A-line dresses, tulip dresses, mermaid dresses, and other dresses highlight beautiful curves. Floral patterns such as lilies and carnations are made to sparkle with beads and pearls, blooming in all their glory on dresses and jackets.
A poetic and sublime collection worthy of the name of the Queen, a symbol of Britain. I'm secretly looking forward to seeing if the Royal Family will have further opportunities to wear Erdem clothes in the future.
