Artist Jason Freeny's first solo exhibition in Ginza features an anatomical model of Mario!

Event Date:2017.09.15-10.05
Sep 9, 2017

Megumi Ogita Gallery in Tokyo's Ginza district will host Jason Freeny's exhibition, "Plastic Surgeon," from September 15 to October 5. Born into a hippie family, Freeny studied at the prestigious Pratt Institute for architecture and industrial design, and traveled the world as a freelance designer. When the characters he creates move from two-dimensional to three-dimensional figures, they are emptied of their internal organs. By creating cartoon-like internal organs and bones, Freeny gives the figures substance, creating anatomy reminiscent of plastic toys. The exhibition will feature 10 new works, primarily one-of-a-kind pieces, as well as eight of his most important works, on display for the first time in Asia. The exhibition will feature an anatomical model of Mario, a masterpiece whose creation process is shared on Facebook, as well as anatomical models of characters familiar in Japan. A white chocolate-colored bunny by Mighty Jaxx will also be available for presale worldwide.
