Artist Noritaka Tatehana's solo exhibition "Noritaka Tatehana Rethink" will be held at Space O in Omotesando Hills, Tokyo, from August 12th to August 20th.

This exhibition, the artist's largest to date, will feature his latest works as well as some of Tatehana's personal collection, including his signature heelless shoes favored by Lady Gaga, as well as the ukiyo-e prints and photographs of courtesans that inspired them. "My roots are rooted in my personal history, including my family, the place where I was born and raised, and childhood memories, as well as the Japanese crafts I studied during my university years and the Edo and Meiji periods, which marked the beginning of Westernization in modern Japan," Tatehana says. This exhibition brings together materials related to courtesans, a subject of her research since her time at Tokyo University of the Arts, props used in Bunraku puppet theater performances, and monumental sculptures depicting courtesan hairpins. Through the exhibits, visitors can experience the artist's roots and the process that led to the creation of her works, including heelless shoes, while traversing the past and present of Japanese culture. Additionally, a special teahouse has been set up at the venue in collaboration with the Japanese confectionery shop Toraya Cafe An Stand, offering a limited-edition menu free to visitors. Enjoy seasonal Japanese sweets like strawberry-flavored bean paste shaved ice and matcha-flavored anboro.
