An exhibition of artist Yasuhiro Suzuki is being held at the Hakone Open-Air Museum, bringing new discoveries to everyday life!

Jul 21, 2017

Artist Suzuki Yasuhiro's exhibition "Suzuki Yasuhiro: Garden of Beginnings" will be held at the Hakone Open-Air Museum's Main Gallery/Multi-Hall from August 5th to February 25th next year. Suzuki Yasuhiro is an artist who creates works that take mundane everyday life as their subject matter, offering fresh interpretations of natural phenomena and objects that we might otherwise overlook. In 2001, he won the top prize for his video installation "Perspective of Playground Equipment," which he presented on the NHK program "Digital Stadium." He then served as art director for the digital public art installation "Air Port" held at Haneda Airport in 2009, and attracted attention with works such as "Zipper Ship," which he presented at the 2010 Setouchi Triennale, depicting the wake of a ship as if a zipper opening the sea.

This exhibition is set in the main gallery, which is made up of three exhibition rooms with different characteristics, and is arranged like a "garden" with themes such as "air," "gravity," "inversion," and "moment," and will display 58 pieces, including 10 new works such as "Up/Down: Sculpture of Gravity and Magnetic Force," "Metronome that Measures Nature," and "Scales that Measure Lightness." In addition to his signature work, "Blinking Leaves," the multi-hall will also display four blink-themed works, including "Blinking ID Photo," an interactive piece that photographs the moment your eyes are closed, and "Blinking Clock," which blinks once per minute.
