Goldfish Reflect the Cool Summer. Art Aquarium 2013 Held at Nihonbashi Mitsui Hall

Jun 10, 2013

The goldfish underwater art exhibition "ECO ECO Nihonbashi Diners Club Art Aquarium 2013 - Edo Goldfish Coolness" will be held at Nihonbashi Mitsui Hall in Nihonbashi, Tokyo, from July 13th to September 23rd.

The exhibition began in 2011 and has attracted 1.5 million visitors to date. Goldfish will swim in tanks with a Japanese motif, and the exhibits will be displayed using a combination of the latest technology such as light and video. Hidetomo Kimura, a leading figure in "Art Aquarium," which combines art and aquariums, has served as producer since the first exhibition. This year's exhibits include new works such as "Kimonorium," which embeds a Kyoto Yuzen kimono in an aquarium and uses goldfish and 3D projection mapping to create kimono patterns; a spectacular work being shown for the first time in Japan; "Elegant Dance: Flowering Fish Roaring," which depicts the flow of a river with countless goldfish; "Kaleidorium: Kaleidoscope," which creates a kaleidoscope-like world; and "Goldfish Collection," which displays a variety of rare goldfish in a round aquarium. Also, during the exhibition period, "Night Aquarium" will be held from 7 PM, where you can enjoy the art aquarium with sake and original "goldfish cocktails." Live music and DJ performances are also scheduled on weekends. Original yukata designs will also be available. A kaleidoscope-like "Kaleidorium" yukata, created in collaboration with Kyoto's prestigious "Fujii Shibori," and a yukata in collaboration with Nihonbashi's "Sansho," featuring goldfish patterns made with Ise stencil paper and dyed using the chusen dyeing method, will be sold at various commercial facilities in Nihonbashi. If you wear the yukata you purchased, you can enter the exhibition as many times as you like.
