WISHLESS Gallery in Tabata, Tokyo, will be hosting a solo exhibition by painter Ken Hamaguchi titled "Don't Eat in the Casbah!" from July 22 to August 19. The exhibition will feature a selection of Hamaguchi's most impressive new works, centered around his "Ultimate Rock'n'Roller" and "Ultimate Singer" series, which feature rock and pop record jackets paired with realistic animals. As a special feature, the exhibition will also feature a collaborative work with the gallery's owner, artist Rob Kidney. The title of the exhibition, a song that Hamaguchi himself feels strongly about, is a mix of "Don't Eat in the Casbah!" (Meshi Kuu Don't Eat!) by INU, a band important in Japanese alternative/punk history, and "Woman of the Casbah," a classic Showa-era song sung by numerous singers. It perfectly captures Hamaguchi's desire to "create something that is unclear as to whether it has meaning or not."
