To celebrate the 10th anniversary of the opening of Italy-based shoe designer Hidetaka Fukaya's bespoke shop in Europe, an exhibition will be held at the gallery "EYE OF GYRE" inside Omotesando GYRE from July 4th to 30th.

The exhibition is a touring Tokyo version of an exhibition that Fukaya held at the Museo Marino Marini in Florence, Italy in 2015. The theme is "expressing the various emotions, personalities, and races that humans possess through shoes," such as birth, twistedness, and screams.

For the Tokyo exhibition, with the cooperation of long-standing close friends, the exhibition will also feature new works incorporating traditional craft techniques, created in collaboration with artists and craftsmen living in Toyama Prefecture. The exhibition will feature works inspired by his encounter with ceramic artist Shaku Eiyo, whose studio is located in Tateyama Town, Toyama Prefecture; a pair of shoes recreated in cast metal with the cooperation of Heiwa Alloy, a company that preserves the traditional copperware craft of Takaoka City, Toyama Prefecture; and glass slippers created with the cooperation of glass artist Shun Kumagai, born in Tateyama Town, Toyama Prefecture. Hidetaka Fukaya was born in Tokai City, Aichi Prefecture, in 1974. While studying at Nagoya Mode Gakuen, he studied the fundamentals of shoemaking under Nagoya shoemaker Shigetaro Matsuda. In 1997, he was awarded the "Creator of the Year" award. After working as a designer for "Kensho Abe" for one year, he traveled to Italy to study shoemaking under Alessandro Stella in Siena. He then moved to Florence and launched his own brand, "il micio," opening his long-awaited shop in 2005. Since 2006, he has also been designing ready-to-wear shoes in collaboration with TOMORROWLAND.
