On June 22nd, Yusuke Takahashi's ISSEY MIYAKE MEN held its Spring/Summer 2018 men's collection show in the courtyard of the University of Paris in the Jussou district.
Inspired by a "journey to the desert," the collection aimed to create comfortable clothing for sophisticated urbanites, featuring simple yet functional pieces.
Each piece, including an oversized kimono top, triple-pleat baggy pants, draped collar shirts, and puff-sleeve blousons, evokes the desert while its relaxed silhouettes create a cool impression. Many of the pieces were salt-shrunk, or blended with wool, polyester, and cotton and shrunk to create random motifs, giving the fabrics their own unique character, subtly adding decorativeness to the minimalist design.
In particular, items made in the second half of the show featured sand-ribbed patterns on polyester broadcloth and cotton broadcloth, as well as items made from an original polyester material that had been product-pressed to create vertical wrinkles, all of which required no ironing and were perfect for travel. They also evoked the tradition of Issey Miyake as a maison that has been presenting pleated items that do not require ironing for many years.
Sandals reminiscent of zori sandals by Naifuji of Gion also caught the eye, making the overall look look even more modern and beautiful.
